On September 15, 1935, Hitler signed two laws that became known as the Nuremberg Laws. These laws disenfranchised the Jews of Germany, removing their citizenship. The second part of the law forbade marriage between Jews and non-Jews. It also outlawed Jews from employing a German female domestic under the age of 45. A further clarification of the laws stated that anyone with three Jewish grandparents was considered Jewish. With the promulgation of the Nuremberg laws, efforts intensified to force Jews out of German life, by whatever means possible. Jews were forced to sell their businesses and their homes, and many emigrated. Jews living in smaller towns were forced to flee to the major cities.
